Trader Docked For Alleged Stealing
A 22-year-old trader,
Gbenga Abiola, was on Monday arraigned in an Akure Magistrates’ Court for allegedly stealing a motorcycle.
The Prosecutor, ASP Pelumi Adejuwon, told the court that the accused committed the offence on January 22 at about 10.a.m at Igoba Estate, Akure, Ondo State.
He alleged that the accused stole one Honda Motorcycle with registration number FKJ 750 QC belonging to one Kolawole Joy.
The prosecutor also said the accused fraudulently converted the motorcycle to his own use by refusing to return it until it was recovered from him.
Adejuwon explained that the offence contravened Section 390(9) of the Criminal, Code Cap 37, Vol. 1, Laws of Ondo State of Nigeria, 2006.
The accused, however, pleaded not guilty to the one-count charge of stealing.
The prosecutor applied for an adjournment to enable him assemble his three witnesses in court.
The defence counsel, Yemi Salau, who did not oppose the application for adjournment, asked for bail of his client on liberal terms.
The Magistrate, Mrs Olubukola Kuye, granted the accused bail in the sum of N100,000 with one surety in like sum.
Kuye ordered that the sureties must be resident within the magisterial district. She adjourned the case till May 19 for hearing.
