Terrorists Bomb Abuja Again; Eight Confirmed Dead …Two Cameroonians Nabbed …Another Bomb Yet To Detonate
Less than three weeks after a bomb blast killed over 74 persons in Nyanya, a suburb of the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja another explosion last night rocked the area again.
Eight persons were confirmed dead and 10 injured as at the time of this report even as the figures of the dead and injured were expected to rise as rescue operations continued last night.
A security man at the scene of the blast was said to have alerted the public of another bomb that was yet to detonate.
Two Camerounian suspects were also said to have been arrested at the scene of the blast. The security forces nabbed the suspects who claimed to be of foreign nationals and could not speak nor understand English language.
An eye witness also confirmed that it was a Mazda car that was used for the bombings and that three suspects drove by, parked the car and started running.
“As people started pursuing them, the car exploded creating panic and pandemonium that made them to escape”, the witness said.
Another eye witness said that he had a narrow escape having come near the vicinity to effect some repairs of one of his electronic gadgets.
He said that three people inside the Golf car parked close to the Mazada died instantly.
The bombers, whose identities were yet to be unmasked, struck at the same transit point they attacked two weeks ago at Nyanya in the suburb of the FCT just as workers who went for the a May Day celebration were returning to their bases.
Unlike the last blast, which was targeted at the major bus terminal, the latest attack was concentrated on the opposite side of the terminal, which is used by commuters.
Security men, who were taken unawares by the deadly attack, promptly mobilised and blocked all routes leading to and from the scene of the attack. The development worsened the gridlock on the Nyanya-Abuja-Keffi Road and frustrated many commuters.
Meanwhile, Kano state Governor, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso has called on the political class to bury their differences and work to save the Nigeria project.
Kwankwaso who made the passionate appeal in Kano when he received in audience some members of the political class explained that there is no better time than now to bury the hatchet in the overall interest of the country.
“Nigerian should close rank, bury our differences especially the one created by politicians to save Nigeria project “, Kwankwaso stressed in an emotion laden speech.
The Governor stated that the event of the last few days by stakeholders across the country has obtained a change of attitude on the part of those that control the seat of power in Abuja, pointing out that “The unison by which Nigerians have taken Chibock abduction has forced Abuja to sit tight.
Kwankwaso declared that “this is the time to bring back these children and reunite them with their families as this remain the only option to restore confidence in our polity”.
Kwankwaso further assured the Group of his readiness to submit their letter to Mr. President within the next 24 hours, adding that “Mr President knows that you people are here and if I failed to do my responsibility, I know he would ask for it”.
In a speech earlier, chairman, Kano Civil Society Group Bala Abdullahi tasked Government to evolved a proactive strategies that would bring back the children back home unharmed.
Comrade Abdullahi appealed to the federal Government to make it as a matter of policy to brief Nigerians on the state of affairs until the Chibock debacle is resolve.
