Stolen Handsets: Three In Prison Custody

Court sitting in the Port Harcourt Magisterial District has remanded three accused persons in prison custody for alleged involvement in armed robbery at Trans Amadi axis of Port Harcourt Local Government Area of Rivers State.
The accused persons, Adasi Sylvanus Adasi, 18, Amefork Monday, 22 and Ability Edet, 20, who were first arraigned on May 6, 2014, are facing a two count charge of armed robbery in suit number PMC/806c/2014.
They were alleged to have conspired and robbed their victim, one Mr Precious Kalu on February 24, 2014 along Trans Amadi Road, Port Harcourt, adding that the accused while armed with locally made pistol and other weapons did rob one Precious R. Kalu of one Black Berry handset valued N25,000.00 and one Nokia phone valued N8,000.00 only.
The prosecution averred that the accused committed an offence punishable under Section 6(b) and Section 1(1)(2) of the Robbery and Firearms (special provisions) Act Cap R11 Laws of the Federation of Nigeria 2004.
Ruling on the matter, Chief Magistrate, Ipalibo F. Iyiabo, said the court lacked jurisdiction to grant them bail while advising them to approach the High Court for their bail. He therefore, remanded the accused persons in prison custody, while the matter was adjourned to July 10th, 2014 for motion.
