Security Guards Docked Over Alleged Theft

Two security guards
were docked on Tuesday at an Igbosere Magistrates’ Court in Lagos over an alleged theft of N3million worth of property.
The security guards, Samuel Gambo, 22, and Idris Saibu, 20. both reside at No. 2, Jinadu St., Igbo Efon, Lekki, Lagos.
They were charged on a three-count charge of conspiracy, stealing and neglect to prevent a felony.
The prosecutor, Sgt. Julius Babatope, told the court that the accused committed the offences with others now at large at 4:00 p.m. on April 25 at Jinadu St., Lekki, Lagos State.
He said the accused and their accomplices stole various types of jewellery, a laptop and a drink, all valued at N3 million belonging to one Mr Jethro John.
Julius also alleged that the accused failed in their duty as security guards to prevent the theft.
According to the prosecution, the offences contravene Sections 285, 408 and 409 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.
The Tide reports that Section 285 prescribes three years’ imprisonment for anyone found guilty of stealing.
Our source also reports that John was in court as a witness for the prosecution.
The accused, however, pleaded not guilty to the three-count charge.
The Magistrate, Mrs F. Aigbokhaevbo, granted the accused bail in the sum of N300,000 with two sureties in like sum.
She adjourned the case till May 12 for mention.
