Poor Facilities Worry Volleyball Coach
A Senior Volleyball
Coach with the Osun Sports Council, Olalekan Adediran, has blamed the decay in sports infrastructure in the country on poor maintenance culture.
Adediran told newsmen at the just concluded Development Agenda for Western Nigeria (DAWN) Games in Lagos that there was the need for adequate maintenance of sports facilities.
“The most important thing for these facilities after being used is to maintain the standard and make them available any other time for hosting national or international sporting activities.
“DAWN Games will be a motivation to some states in rehabilitating and building sports facilities where such events can be hosted.
“Most of the facilities used at the Games were built to host the 18th National Sports Festival, tagged “Eko 2012” hosted by the Lagos State Government.
“The facilities are still intact and in good shape for use by all the six participating states in Western Nigeria,” Adediran said.
He said the Osun volleyball team would excel at the Games.
The Games, in its maiden and being hosted by Lagos State, is to discover talents in secondary schools.
