Oduduru, Akerele Make IAAF World Relays List
Two Nigeria home-based
sprinters, Divine Oduduru and Omeiza Akerele have been named as members of the country’s proposed team to the IAAF World Relays.
The competition is slated to hold between May 24 and 25 in Nassau, Bahamas.
The Athletics Federation of Nigeria (AFN) said in a statement in Lagos that the duo had been impressive in their performance at the federation’s organised Golden League.
It will be recalled that the duo did the country proud in 2013 at the African Youth Athletics Championships.
Oduduru won the men’s 100m in Akure with a personal best of 10.39 secs, while Akerele fought stiff competition from old timer and Olympics bronze medalist, Godday James to win the Men’s 400m in 46.88 secs.
According to the statement, leading the Team Nigeria is Moscow 2013 double medalist, Blessing Okagbare who has been listed to compete in the 4 x 100m and 4 x 200m relays.
She will be joined by Gloria Asumnu, Dominique Omajuwa Duncan, Francesca Okwara, Peace Uko and Endurance Abinuwa in the 4x100m.
Other female athletes in the team are Regina George, Patience Okon-George, Omolara Omotosho, Bukola Abogunloko, Folashade Abugan and Amaka Ogoegbunam.
The men’s team comprises of Ogho-Oghene Egwero, Obinna Metu, Nicolas Imhoaperamhe, Mark Quis Frazier, Elvis Ukale, Oduduru and Noah Akwu.
Others are Amaechi Morton, Orukpe Eraikoyan Joseph, Akerele, Tobi Ogunmola and Isah Salihu.
The statement said that AFN President, Solomon Ogba, would lead the contingent, including Technical Director, Navy Commodore Omatseye Nesiama, Olumide Bamiduro (Secretary General) and Eric Campbell (Performance Director).
Other officials are Relays Co-coordinator, Maurice Green, Gabriel Okon, Daniel Etsebiminor, Ekundayo Ogunkunle (Physio), Timothy Lee (Physio), Falilat Ogunkoya (Athlete Representative) and Olukayode Thomas (Media Officer).
