NUT, ANCOPSS To Partner On Crime Reduction In Schools
The Nigeria Union of
Teachers (NUT) and All Nigeria Conference of Principals of Secondary Schools (ANCOPSS), have announced their decision to partner on ways to reduce the level of crime in secondary schools across the country.
In a statement adopted, ANCOPSS’ National President, Hajia Fatima Abdulrahman said both unions would seek appropriate measures to tackle the crime rate in the country’s secondary schools.
Abdulrahaman said ANCOPSS and NUT had agreed to closely work in partnership to ensure that appropriate investment in education was to reduce crime and insecurity within the country’s schools system.
She said the major challenges facing the education sector in the country include inadequate training of teachers and poor funding.
Others, the Union President said were inadequate staff in schools and lack of equipment for effective teaching of trade subjects by members of the two unions.
She said that addressing these challenges urgently would lead to rapid progress in the education sector.
The ANCOPS boss said the union would continue to work closely with the Federal, State and Local governments to pursue the core objectives of education in the country.
She said ANCOPSS places high premium on the training of its members through Mandatory Continuing Professional Training (MCPT) which holds across the six geo-political zones annually.
She enjoined members of the union to exploit the opportunity offered by the union to improve on their teaching skills.
She urged the government to look at the possibility of introducing duty post allowances for Principals and Vice Principals so as to motivate them for more optimum performance.
Abdulrahman said ANCOPSS has no conflict of interest with NUT, stressing that both unions stand out to protect the welfare of their members within the education sector.
She said both unions have long resolved any grey areas with the intervention of stakeholders in the education sector.
