Lack Of Playing Time Worries Ogu
Nigeria and Academica
midfielder John Ogu has taken to Twitter to express his frustrations at a continued lack of game time as the World Cup approaches.
Ogu is hoping to be named in Nigeria’s World Cup squad but is concerned about his restricted playing opportunities and explains that it is not for a lack of ability.
In a series of tweets over the weekend, Ogu explained his side of the story.
“I am sure some of my fans have been wondering why I haven’t been getting much playing time at my club,” he began. “My next set of tweets will let you know the series of events that led to my current situation.
“And it all started when I wanted to come play for Nigeria in a friendly against South Africa and my club manager asked me to call the Coach (Keshi) to tell him that I was injured and wouldn’t be available for selection.
“I refused because I really wanted to represent my country and reward the faith coach Keshi had in me. Ever since that incident, I have been frozen out of the first team and have barely featured in some games this season.
“Despite my hard work in training, I have found opportunities to play competitive matches few and far in between.”
Ogu went on to declare the importance of international football and his unhappiness at not playing regularly.
“It means a lot to me to represent my country and I will not let you, the fans down anytime I wear the jersey of our football team.
“It’s kind of unfulfilling for me as a footballer not to get games yet I get paid every month.
“I do not feel like I am earning my wages and I feel very disappointed. I have great belief in myself and the quality I will bring to the team.”
