Kidnappers Demand N10m For Rivers LG Boss …As Gunmen Kidnap Commissioner’s Aide
Three weeks after the Chairman of Ahoada West Local Government Area in Rivers State was kidnapped, his abductors have demanded the sum of N10 million as ransom for his release.
A source who disclosed this to The Tide on condition of anonymity said the N10 million was the latest demand by the abductors adding that the family of Hon. Miller were already aware of the development.
The Tide reports that members of Association of Local Government Rivers State Chapter is working tirelessly to secure the release of their member.
A member of the association who confirmed this to our reporter said that the body would meet soon on the development.
He said that the kidnappers had earlier demanded N600 million for his release.
He expressed optimism that, Hon. Awori would region his family soon.
When contacted on phone, the acting spokesperson of Rivers State Police Command, DSP Grace Koko said the Police was already working to secure the LG Chairman’s release.
Meanwhile, unknown gunmen last Monday, struck in Okposi, Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni Local Government Area of Rivers State, and abducted the Personal Assistant to the state Commissioner for Power, Mr Samson Obuah.
Security sources and eye witness accounts said that the heavily armed gunmen had traced their target to his private school in the community in the early hours of Monday.
As they approached the school, our reporter learnt, the gunmen opened fire and had little resistance over-powering the school’s security personnel at the entrance gate.
About three of the gunmen, who were masked and carrying sophisticated G3 calibre guns, headed to the office of the school proprietor, Samson Obuah.
According to the Google search portal, the G3 is a 7.62×51mm NATO battle rifle developed in the 1950s by the German armament manufacturer, Heckler & Koch GmbH (H&K) in collaboration with the Spanish state-owned design and development agency, CETME.
It is a battle riffle that weighs about 4.1 kg (9.04 lb) (G3A3), 4.7 kg (10 lb) (G3A4), 5.54 kg (12.2 lb) with optic (G3SG/1) and 4.1 kg (9.0 lb) (G3K).
According to experts, the G3 gun has a firing rate of 500-600 rounds per minute.
As soon as Obuah was seized, the abductors headed to the road, shooting heavily to make an escape bid.
But while they made efforts to head to their den with their prized catch who they had told would not make it home alive, again, the news of the abduction spread round the community.
The Tide gathered that the police and the youth swiftly mobilized and gave the kidnappers a hot chase.
On sighting the police, heavy gun fire ensued as policemen engaged the gunmen. While the gun duel lasted, Obuah made an escape, running through the bush back to safety.
The Rivers State Command of the Nigeria Police Force had yet to react to the incident even as the command’s Acting Police Public Relations Officer, Mrs Grace Iringe-Koko, promised to furnish The Tide with details of the incident.
It would recalled that Monday’s episode was Obuah’s second missionary journey to the kidnappers’ den having been first abducted in 2012 alongside his principal, Rivers State Commissioner for Power, Augustine Nwokocha.
Both men were shot and had bullets extracted from their legs when they eventually were released.
