Kaduna Restates Commitment To Land Reform

The Kaduna State Gov
ernment has restated the commitment of the present administration in the state to reform its land system.
Disclosing this in a public display of the list of 1,300 houses registered in Gabasawa District, the state commissioner for land, survey and country planning, Alhaji Abdulsalam Baba-Ahmed, Monday said that this is part of the new land administration initiative of the state government.
The initiative tagged “Kaduna Systematic Land Titling and Registration” is supported by the Growth and Employment In States (GES), an arm of the DFID.
Represented by the Director, Town Planning, Alhaji Ibrahim Hussaini, the commissioner said owners of the property registered would soon receive their certificates of occupancy, adding that the registration of houses plots and farmland would enhance the security and value of the property.
Hajiya Aisha Mujaddadi, the manager of GES in the state said 2,138 houses had been registered in the last seven months under the new system in Kaduna metropolis, and pointed out that the target was to register 3,000 houses in the metropolis by GES while the rest would be done by the state government.
She maintained that the display was to enable those who were already registered to check for mistakes and make corrections, adding that the exercise would last for one month.
Mujaddadi said GES planned to reach at least 10,000 additional landowners by mid 2014.
The District Head of Gabasawa, Alhaji Mohammad Jinin, Commended the state government for the project initiative, and urged the government to ensure that land owners whose names were displayed, received their certificates of occupancy in good time.
