Indorama: TUC Calls Off Strike In Rivers
The leadership of the
Trade Union Congress of Nigeria (TUC), Rivers State Chapter has called off its proposed strike action arising from the botched Petroleum and National Gas Senior Staff Association of Nigeria (PENGASSAN) election at the Indorama Nigeria Limited Eleme.
Speaking to The Tide, the state Vice Chairman of the union, Comrade Clement Onyesom said the union’s executive took the decision to call off the industrial action following the intervention of certain persons in authority.
Onyesom said amicable resolutions had been reached by all the parties involved in the botched election.
He said the proposed industrial action was to have commenced on Wednesday with all workers in the oil and gas sector joining the action to protest the undue interference in labour issues within Indorama.
The union’s vice chairman said dialogue remained the only option left for any intractable labour related issues, stressing that TUC has always explored such option as dispute resolution mechanism .
He said TUC was ready to develop partnership synergy with any labour friendly company to protect the welfare of its members and indeed take the union to enviable heights in the state.
He said the organised labour movement remained the only bastion and hope of the common masses and the working class, stressing that the labour’s platform has created the imperativeness of ensuring internal capacities and capabilities are harnessed for the development of the society.
Onyesom urged labour leaders and members of the union to always avoid rancourous relationships.
