FRSC Wants Govt To Install Traffic Lights

The Federal Road Safety
Corps (FRSC) last Tuesday, advised the Lagos State Government to install traffic light at the new Alimosho intersection on the Lagos-Abeokuta Expressway.
The FRSC Unit Commander in the area, Mrs Chinwendu Iwuoha, told our correspondent  at Ikotun that the intersection had eased traffic on the road.
Our Correspondent  reports that the intersection which links Alimosho road (also Alaguntan road) was created following the closure of Dopemu Bridge on March 15.
The state government had closed the bridge from March 15 to 24 for routine maintenance handled by the China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation (CCECC).
The opening, however, had reduced the usual heavy traffic in the area particularly at Iyana Dopemu en route to Egbeda and Iyana-Ipaja as it has provided an alternative route.
“The Alimosho road which the intersection has opened up is actually the only solution to the usual gridlocks on the expressway.
“No one can imagine that the opening on that expressway is the way out of the traffic jam.
“We have realised this and we implore the state government to leave the intersection and not close it again.
“Instead, the government should consider installing traffic light at the opening for safety,’’ Iwuoha said.
She noted that the high volume of traffic which had been diverted from Dopemu Bridge would elongate the lifespan of the bridge.
The FRSC official, however, advised motorists to be patient and consider other road users while driving to ensure safety.
She also advised drivers to pay attention to their health and ensure that their vehicles were roadworthy.
“Poor health can affect a driver’s judgment on the road.’’
