Four Face Trial Over Alleged Murder
An Oredo
Magistrates’ Court, Benin, recently ordered remand of four men in prison custody over alleged stabbing to death of one Kelly Edobor on his head with a broken bottle.
The accused – Emmanuel Esiekpe, 22; Osazee Alfred, 18’; Precious Anthony, 17 and Rotimi Igiebo, 21, – are facing a two-count charge of conspiring to commit felony and murder.
The prosecutor, ASP Sylvester Omor, told the court that on March 10, the accused who reside at Zabayo Street, Benin, conspired to commit felony.
Omor alleged that the accused unlawfully killed Edobor by using a broken bottle to stab him on his head.
The prosecutor said the offences contravened sections 516 and 320(1) of the Criminal Code.
If convicted, the accused are liable to 14 year’s jail each or be sentenced to death.
They, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.
The Chief Magistrate, Mr Mike Osayi, ordered the accused to be remanded in prison and directed that the case file be duplicated and a copy sent to the Director of Public Prosecutions for advice.
He adjourned the case until May 26.
