Elechi Amadi, A Pride To N’Delta

Distinguished Nigerians from across the Niger Delta have paid glowing tributes to Captain Elechi Amadi at his 80th birthday celebration, describing him as a celebrated writer who has brought honour to the region.
The member representing Ikwerre/Emohua Federal Consitituency, Chief Andrew Uchendu described Elechi Amadi as a great asset to the Ikwerre nation.
Uchendu said that Elechi Amadi’s reputation has gone beyond the shores of Nigeria, stressing that it was during his time as the President general of Ogbakor Ikwerre that the Ikwerres became a force to be reckoned with as a people.
Also speaking, the Vice Chancellor of the University of Port Harcourt, Professor Joseph Ajienka also described Elechi Amadi as a literary icon, who has made the nation proud.
Ajienka said that, the University was proud of Captain Elechi Amadi, noting that the people of Mbodo-Aluu, his home town, and the entire Ikwerre ethnic nationality must be proud to have a writer in the person of Elechi Amadi.
In his speech, the former President General of Ogbakor Ikwerre, Professor Otonti Nduka said that the Ikwerre nation has benefitted so much from the activities of Elechi Amadi.
Nduka also said that Elechi Amadi has brought honour to both Rivers State and the Niger Delta, and urged the younger generation to emulate the qualities of Captain Elechi Amadi by avoiding those things that will bring disgrace to their communities.
On his part, the former Vice Chancellor of the Rivers State University of Science and technology (RSUST), Professor Simeon Achinewhu described him as a simple man who has not been found wanting, stressing that his qualities are worthy of emulation.
Achinewhu prayed God to give him more years to continue to serve humanity.
Captain Elechi Amadi, on his part, urged upcoming writers to avoid too much lamentation, stressing that, they should use their talents to affect their lives and those of others.
