The Deputy Senate Presi
dent, Senator Ike Ekwerenmadu, has congratulated the new Archbishop-elect of Enugu Province of the Anglican Communion, Most Rev. Emmanuel Chukwuma on his 25th Episcopal consecration anniversary.
Speaking during a church service in honour of the bishop in Enugu recently, Ekwerenmadu described him as a mentor and a man courageous in all he did.
“I learnt from the bishop how to speak out when things are not going well. Chukwuma taught me how to visit the less privileged in the society.
“The archbishop-elect has mentored many pastors, bishops and is still mentoring many upcoming youths in the service of God,’’ Ekwerenmadu said.
Also speaking, retired Maj.-Gen. Theophilus Danjuma urged Chukwuma, who was also celebrating his 60th birthday, to continue to do the good work he had been doing.
Danjuma prayed God to bless his ministry, grant him good health and long life and thanked the bishop for presenting an award of recognition to him.
The Executive Secretary of the National Christian Pilgrims Welfare Commission, Mr Kennedy Okpara, thanked God for using the archbishop positively in his vineyard.
“I make bold to say that Bishop Chukwuma is a voice of the voiceless, especially when and where other men of God will keep quiet.
“In pilgrimage, I always call him the voice of the voiceless. God has used him to speak out for us especially when necessary. I want to thank God for His Grace upon his life,” Okpara said.
Earlier in his sermon, the Bishop of Ibadan Anglican Diocese, Most Rev. J.A. Akinfenwa, encouraged Chukwuma to put in more efforts than he had done.
“Whatever the height you have attained in your work with the Lord, as long as you are still on earth, there is more room for improvement, so do not relent.
He encouraged Chukwuma to continue to mentor the upcoming pastors in the services of God.
In his vote of thanks, Archbishop Chukwuma commended those in attendance for celebrating with him.
Chuwkuma used the occasion to honour Danjuma, Chief Sunny Odogwu and Chief Arthur Eze for their contributions to the growth of Christianity and the diocese.
