Ekiti Kicks-off School Sports Festival

Council has began trials for the maiden Development Agenda for Western Nigeria South-West Secondary School Sports Festival tagged, “DAWN Games,’’ and scheduled to hold in Lagos from May 16.
The trials began with boys and girls football, basketball and volleyball among secondary schools in the three senatorial districts in the state.
In boys’ football trial held at Ado Grammar School, Ado-Ekiti, Egbeoba High School defeated Edu-Erio Community Grammar 1-0 to qualify for another trial against Corpus Christy, Boys, Ilawe Ekiti.
C.K.C Girls School Ire Ekiti, in girls’ football, defeated Corpus Christy Girls, Ilawe 3-0.
In male basketball, Ado Grammar School defeated Christ School, Ado-Ekiti 27-20, while Ado Grammar School defeated Anglican High School 23-16 to qualify for possible selection in the state team.
In female basketball, Baptist High School defeated Immaculate Girls School13-0.
In male volleyball, Ansarudeen Comprehensive School defeated Christ Apostolic Church School 2-0, while Baptist High School defeated Ilejemeje Community High School 2-0.
Reacting to the results of the competitions, the General Manager of the council, Mr Kayode Adewunmi, commended the students that participated in the trials.
Adewunmi said that the competition was organised to select the contingent that would represent the state at the DAWN Games in Lagos as from May16.
He said that the trials would continue with athletics, scrabble, chess, tennis and table tennis.
Adewunmi said this would enable the council to select talented students for the DAWN Games.
