Governor Adams
Oshiomhole of EdoState has threatened to arrest and prosecute any local government agent involved in multiple tax collection or extortion.
Oshiomhole gave the warning last Thursday in Benin after an interactive meeting with the chairmen of local  government areas in the state.
He also urged the chairmen to streamline their tax collection and ensure that only legitimate taxes were collected.
The governor said that the need to invoke the law followed the high number of people masquerading as tax collectors in Edo.

The governor also decried the collection of levies from commercial vehicles on inter-state routes, saying the act was embarrassing to the state.
Oshiomhole also urged the chairmen to work with traditional rulers and security agencies to ensure safety in their domain.
The Governor said that though security agencies had done a lot to make the state safer, the local government chairmen also had roles in the area of security in their domain.
He further canvassed for the sustenance of vigilante groups to aide security agencies across the rural areas.
The   State Commissioner of Police, Mr Foluso Adebanjo and State Director of State Security Service, Mr Bello Bakore and top government officials attended the meeting.
