D-G Urges Rehabilitation Of Displaced Farmers In Benue
The Director-Gen
eral of the Benue Planning Commission, Mrs Dorcas Ukpe, has urged the Federal Government to assist it in rehabilitating farmers displaced by herdsmen in the state.
Briefing journalists in Makurdi recently, Ukpe said that the farmers lost virtually all they had during the crisis with the Fulani.
According to her, since the farmers lost virtually all they had, there is the need for the government to rehabilitate them.
She said this had become necessary in order to tackle the looming food shortage in the state.
Ukpe, however, urged the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development to provide farmers with improved seedlings and other farm inputs, to enable them to return to their farms.
She also appealed to donor agencies to assist the people by providing them with relief materials, including mosquito nets and drugs.
The Director-General commended the UNICEF for providing boreholes to the various camps in the state.
