Community Calls For Compensation On Land
Following the construc
tion of dam in Gidan Mafana Community in Shagari Local Government Area of Sokoto State, the people of the community have demanded that Federal Government pay compensation to the people whose land was used for the construction of the dam.
The village Head of the area, Malam Magaji Umaru who made the demand while speaking to journalists Monday, noted that some of the residents of the area have been deprived of their farm land which was used for the dam construction and will need to be compensation.
He said that life had been so difficult for the people of the community since their land had been used for dam construction, without compensation.
“Our land, which we were using for farming our houses, as well as economic trees have been washed away by the construction of the dam”, Umaru stated.
The village head explained that over 10 of his farmlands and various economic trees as well as houses have been destroyed on the cause of construction of the dam, but that uptill this moment, that he has not received any money as compensation.
According to him, adequate compensation would enable the people to start new life for the wellbeing of the community.
Umaru also called on the state government to construct a hospital, Primary School and road network in the area, to enhance its socio economic and political growth.
He said “our children don’t go to school any longer because ours has been taken over since the construction of the dam.”
