Bizman Cautions Confab On Voting Method

A Port Harcourt based
businessman, Mr Emeka Iwezor says the ongoing national conference will be an effort in futility if the delegates adopt a two-third voting formula instead of a simple majority in accepting the reports submitted by the various committees.
Mr Iwezor who spoke during a chat with The Tide in Port Harcourt, said that going by the two-third voting formular, the northern majority would hinder the success of most reports, especially the resource control, rotational presidency, among others.
He noted that issues like resource control and rotational presidency were crucial considering the difficulties suffered by the oil producing areas, pointing out that oil has now become a curse to the people.
Mr Iwezor regretted that most rulers, including governors and local government council chairmen wait for federal allocations on monthly basis without exploring other ways of revenue generation.
The businessman stressed the need to strengthen the country’s security forces and other agencies to be able to counter security challenges in the country saying, “they should be provided with standard and sophisticated weapons and make them intelligently effective”.
“Nigeria’s military is not weak as they have excelled and earned laurels for the country during external or international encounters. Anyone who wants to dare our military should come up”, he said.
Describing the cooperation of the international community to assist Nigeria in fighting the Boko Haram menace as  a welcome development, Iwezor urged Nigerians to support the foreign troops to achieve the desired goal, saying the whole motive behind the Boko Haram actions was to run down and destablise the President Goodluck Jonathan government.
He called on the federal government to unravel the mystery behind the abduction of about 234 students of  Federal Government Girls Secondary School, Chibok without one teacher or the principal being involved.
