Nsukka Diocese, Most Rev. Godfrey Onah, last Sunday advised faithfuls to use May 28 to June 1 to register if they missed previous exercises
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has set out the date for its Continuous Voter Registration.
He said that any Nigerian above 18 years should have a valid voter’s card that would enable him or her to vote at elections.
“It is one of the civic obligations of a patriotic citizen to vote during elections.“Do not bother yourself whether your vote will count or not or if the election will not be rigged, but do what is expected of you and leave the rest to God.“If you know you have not registered before or you are not up to 18 years when the last voter registration was done, please use the opportunity to register,’’ he said.
He advised politicians to shun rigging or other forms of election malpractice that caused citizen’s apathy during election.
“Political parties and their members should know that God is watching and be careful about whatever they do to steal the mandates of the people.
“Some people develop apathy during elections because they believed that after voting their votes will not count.“INEC should consider extending time for polling units whose registers have disappeared in INEC’s data bank to avoid disfranchising many people during the 2015 elections, he added.
