Bayelsa Committed To Quality Healthcare Delivery – Commissioner
Bayelsa State Government
says it is committed to improve healthcare delivery in Oluasiri, Otumoama Community in Nembe Local Government Area.
Towards this end, the cottage hospital built in the area by Shell Petroleum Development Company of Nigeria (SPDC) and handed over to the state government would be improved for commencement of immediate operation.
The Commissioner for Health Dr Ayibatonye Owei, stated this in Nembe during his facility visit to the community to ascertain the level of health development.
“We will ensure that those health facilities on ground shall be utilized; the state government is planning to supply the needed health equipment to begin the operation of the hospital in Oluasiri.
“This is one of the best hospital structures I have visited in the state; the wards and its department are of good standard; I commend Shell Oil Company for the edifice. “This is a kind of project we need from companies or organisations in order to support the restoration agenda of the state government,” he said.
In their welcome address, the community had expressed displeasure that a health facility provided two years by Shell Development Company had been abandoned by the state government.
The community’s traditional ruler, King Iyerite Awululu who spokeon behalf of the community appealed to the state government to improve on public infrastructures in the area pointing out that the most worrisome was inadequate healthcare for the people.
Awululu explained that the Oluasiri Cottage Hospital was built by the Shell Company and handed over to the state ministry of health two years ago and yet to commence operation.
“We need to have access to health, our people have to travel far to treat various health issues; I believe as you have seen the hospital that something new will begin to happen. “I thank the government of Bayelsa state for remembering our community,” he said.
