Three Lagos State ath
letes for the next Golden League in Akure have vowed to step up their game to make the national standards.
The athletes at their training venue in Lagos told newsmen that they were keen on making the national standards.
Temidayo Oshunbanjo, twice gold medalist in 100m hurdles in the Abuja and Ilorin Golden Leagues said: “I wish to post a better performance than I did in the previous events.
“Having clinched gold at the last two events, I have the confidence that I will make it at the final qualifiers for the Commonwealth Games.
“My main concern now is to remain unwavering and improve on what I have.
“ I want to remain on top until the All Nigeria Cross River Athletics Championships in June, which will serve as qualifier for the Games,” Oshunbanjo said.
Eze Anayo, another gold medalist in 800m men in the April 12 league at the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) said he would use it to stage a come-back.
“Although I did not have an impressive outing in last Saturday’s event in Ilorin, Akure will be used to ensure a strong come-back.
“My aim is to remain steadfast in the remaining championships and consolidate my aspiration,” Anayo said.
The 1,500m women bronze medal winner, Abike Egbeniyi, said that she escaped the all-comers group by winning a bronze medal at the last event.
“I will use the Akure league as another springboard to stardom. It will afford me the leeway to shore-up my performance for the Commonwealth Games,’’ Egbeniyi said.
The league is staged every fortnight in different states of the federation to stimulate grassroots talent hunt.
