Association Solicits Adequate Funding For FHA
The Senior Staff Associa
tion of Communication, Transport and Corporations (SSACTAC) has tasked the Federal Government on the adequate funding of Federal Housing Authority (FHA) for execution of the mass housing project.
In a statement released to The Tide from the union’s secretariat at 29 Ekololu Street Lagos through the Port Harcourt branch the union’s President Comrade Mohammed Yunusa said the federal government must address the inadequate funding of the FHA for the mass housing project.
Yunusa said the call became necessary in order to empower the FHA to perform its statutory functions, stressing that the core mandate of the FHA can only be carried out if government provides adequate funds to enable it provide more houses for the masses.
The Union leader called for the restructuring of FHA in line with the authority’s core mandate as this is the only way government could realise its social housing goal for the people.
He said the reform in the power, postal, telecommunications, railways and maritime sectors had not been well thought out, leading to the failure to achieve the best results for Nigerians.
The Labour leader said the Union was not satisfied with the privatisation processes in the power and telecommunication sectors, stressing that they were yet to achieve much and government needs to build a new NIPOST in terms of infrastructure and staff to meet the union’s needs.
He called on government to focus more on the development of roads and railways as to help the nation meet the needs of the people as the biggest economy in Africa.
The SSACTAC President warned that government should not allow the activities of some unscrupulous concessionaires at the country’s ports to derail the mandate of the ports Authority.
He said the union welcomes the decision of the federal government to disallow the privatisation of the airports, stressing that the government needs to develop maritime and International Trade by improving the infrastructure at the Warri and Calabar ports by connecting the ports to the railway and highway routes.
