A 35-year-old appli
cant, Seye Adeyomo, on Wednesday appeared in an upper Area Court in Kado, Abuja, for allegedly absconding with his girlfriend’s car.
Adeyomo, who resides in Wuse Zone 6, Abuja, is charged with two counts of theft and criminal intimidation.
The prosecutor, Sgt. Simon Ibrahim, told the court that Ms Eva Princewill of No. 25 Ahmed Musa Crescent, Jabi, Abuja, lodged a report against the accused at the Utako Police Station on April 16.
Ibrahim said that sometime in March the complainant sent her driver to the VIO office to register her new car but on reaching there he discovered she did not give him her full name.
He said the driver could not reach her on phone so he called the accused to make inquiries.
The prosecutor said the accused then ordered the driver to register the car in his name which he did.
He said the accused took the complainant to church with the car and promised to come pick her later but absconded to an unknown destination.
Ibrahim said when the complainant called him on phone asking him to bring back her car he threatened to kill her.
He added that the offence contravened the provision of sections 397 and 287 of the Penal Code.
If convicted, the accused is liable to seven years imprisonment or an option of fine or both.
The accused, however, pleaded not guilty to the offences.
The presiding judge, Mr Abubakar Sadiq, admitted the accused to bail in the sum of N100, 000 and a surety in like sum.
Sadiq ordered that the surety must have a fixed address and must reside within the jurisdiction of the court.
He said the surety must have a landed property in Abuja and submit the papers of the property to the court.
The judge adjourned the matter to May 22 for hearing.
