Rivers State Governor, Chibuike Amaechi at the weekend paid condolence visits to some party members in Obio/Akpor Local Government Area who lost their loved ones recently.
Represented by the Chief of Staff, Government House, Port Harcourt, Sir. Tony Okocha, the governor said the visits were to demonstrate that the party does not discriminate between its members no matter the class of the individual.
He said the party was ready to stand and share with its members in their moments of grief.
Speaking at Ward 9 in Rumueme where he paid condolence visit to the Umunakwe family over the death of their mother, Madam Eunice Emeh, the governor described her as a woman who has touched the life of her community positively.
He enjoined the family to take solace saying, “you are lucky you are the ones burying your mother and not your mother burying you.”
The governor assured them that the party will always stand by its members in their time of need.
In their separate responses, Bright and Alikor Umunakwe thanked the governor for honouring them with his presence, and prayed that the party will always continue to experience victory in all its activities.
The governor also participated in the burial ceremony of one Azuwene Orokor at Rumuoparali.
He tasked party members to be their brother’s keeper as he urged the Orokor family to trust in God during this period of grief.
He later proceeded to visit the family of Elder Ogondah Worlu at Rumuochiworlu in Rumuigbo Community.
Amaechi informed them that the party will stand by any member no matter the challenge.
“This is to show the world that age and status does not count when it comes to APC.”
He prayed that the soul of the late elder will repose peacefully in God’s bossom.
In his response, Mr Obi Ichegbo, on behalf of the family, thanked the governor for remembering the family at this period of loss, and pledged unalloyed support to the party ”come rain, come sun”.
Later, Governor Amaechi inspected ongoing works at the Rumuigbo Civic Centre and the new APC Secretariat at Rumuigbo in Obio/Akpor.
