Abe Empowers Women In Rivers S’East
About 6,900 women of the Riv
ers South-East consisting of Andoni, Eleme, Gokana, Khana, Opobo/Nkoro, Oyigbo and Tai local government areas of Rivers State, have so far benefitted from the Senator Magnus Abe’s wrapper scheme for the Senatorial District.
This is aside the presentation of wrappers to 1,900 women drawn from the 19 wards of Khana Local Government Area of Rivers State.
Meanwhile, the All Progressives Congress (APC) wards Public Relations Officers (PRO) in the area have also got one motorcycle each to assist in the transportation needs of the party in the grassroots.
This largesse was part of a special prayer session led by Senator Abe’s wife, Bariyaah for the rescue of students of Government Girls Secondary School, Chibok, Borno State, who were recently kidnapped by members of the dreaded Boko Haram.
Speaking at the ceremony, held at Bori, headquarters of Khana Local Government Council, Abe decried the rising cases of cult-related killings in Ogoni land, and called on mothers to advise their children properly.
”I beg all of you in the name of God; as we go home, let us set aside one day to pray for peace, pray for sanity, and pray against evil-minded persons in our villages. Any young man in the village who does not want to listen to wise counsel, needs God’s help”. Abe said.
He explained that the gesture was a deliberate way of directly thanking the women and party for their continued support to the Amaechi’s administration and those elected during the 2011 general elections.
Senator Abe disclosed that no fewer than 21 communities in Khana local government area have benefitted from his rural electrification programme, while five others would soon get theirs, pointing out that the water and the electricity scheme, which he initiated were not part of his constituency project.
In his goodwill message, the President, Ogoni Democratic Movement (ODM), Godwin Bazari, said it was the dream of every Ogoni indigene that an Ogoni takes over the Rivers State Government House, come May 29, 2015, stressing that “we have capable, reliable and trusted hands that can consolidate on Governor Amaechi’s achievements”.
Bazari thanked Abe for remembering Amaechi’s supporters and those who voted him during the 2011 elections, saying empowering 1,900 women and 19 party officials in Khana alone, was an indication that the Senator has not forgotten those that supported him.
On his part, Chairman, Gokana local government area of the state, Ledee Demua, said the people of Ogoni were united in their support for Senator Abe.
Earlier in his speech, Chairman of Khana local government council, Gregory Nwidam, described Abe as the pride of not only the people of Ogoni, but Rivers State in general.
According to him, the people of Rivers South East senatorial district did not make any mistake when they voted for him en-masse in 2011.
