Tiler In Court For Damaging N800,000 Tiles

Franco, 25, last Wednesday appeared in a Senior Magistrates’ Court for allegedly damaging tiles worth N800,000.
Franco is charged with criminal breach of trust and mischief.
The prosecutor, Insp. Phillips Apollus, told the court that the matter was reported by Mrs Ifeoma Nwawulu of Life Camp, FCT, at the Life Camp Police Station on March 22.
Apollus said the complainant gave the accused contract to lay granite tiles on the floor of her house.
He said the job was not properly done, and the accused was asked to remove the tiles and relay them
He said that in the process of removing them the accused damaged the tiles valued at N800,000 and absconded to an unknown destination.
The prosecutor said that the offence contravened the provisions of sections 312 and 326 of the Penal Code.
If convicted, the accused is liable to a term not more than two years in prison or with an option to pay a fine or with both.
The accused pleaded not guilty, and his counsel, Mr Gabriel Ewa, pleaded with the court to grant his client bail.
He prayed the court to grant the accused bail on liberal terms because he was suffering from a terminal illness.
The Senior Magistrate, Mr Zubairu Mohammed, admitted the accused to bail in the sum of N1 million with two reasonable sureties in like sum.
He ordered that one of the sureties must be a civil servant on GL 08 or above, and must be resident within the court’s jurisdiction.
Mohammed adjourned the case until May 12 for hearing.
