Surety In Court For Suspects’ Disappearance
A 68-year-old man, El
der Kenneth Nlemogu, has been arraigned by the authorities of Rivers State Police Command before a Port Harcourt Chief Magistrate Court for his inability to produce a suspect he took on police bail on charge sheet PMC/580c/2014.
The accused person, Elder Kenneth Nlemogu, 68 is standing trial on one count charge of entered into recognizance before Chief Magistrate I.F Iyiabo.
The police prosecuting officer, Insp Wilson Isaiah told the court that the accused person on the 17th day of February 2014 at Area Command Headquarters of the Nigeria Police, Port Harcourt, in the Port Harcourt Magisterial District entered into recognizance under the provision of Section 18 of the criminal procedure laws.
The police alleged that the accused person failed to produce Mr Sylvanus Amadi and Chief Godson Nlemogu, who are charged with a case of threatening violence and malicious damage on 25th day of December, 2013 The accused promised to present the suspects whom he took on bail from time to time until the case against them was finally disposed off but failed to produce the said persons on the February 27, 2014 as warned and hereby called upon to show cause under section 18 of the criminal procedure laws of Rivers State why the recognizance of the sum of N500,000.00 should be forfeited to the president of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
The accused person pleaded not guilty on the one charge brought against him before the court. Ruling on the matter, the presiding Chief Magistrate, Ipalibo F. Iyiabo granted the accused bail in the sum of N200,000.00 with one surety in like sum. The surety shall deposit two passports photograph and adjourned the matter to May 6, 2014 for hearing.
