Ministry of Sports Development has said the government was working hard to ensure quality work on the ongoing refurbishment of the Samson Siasia Stadium.
The ministry’s Permanent Secretary, Mightyman Dikuro, told newsmen in Yenagoa that the stadium when completed would meet international standard.
He said that the contract for the refurbishment covered the installation of astro-turf, upgrading of players changing rooms, the press gallery as well as public conveniences.
“Of course, the rehabilitation will take a lot of time to complete but it is better to spend time and ensure quality job, than to execute projects that will not stand the test of time.
“We are trying to ensure that the stadium meets acceptable international standards; it is regrettable that our teams are playing outside the state this season but there is no cause for alarm.
“I believe that the stadium will be completed soon and we really want to get the stadium pitch right and get it real good this time,” Dikuro said.
Dikuro, who decried the development that forced two of the state-based clubs, Nembe City and Bayelsa United, to play outside this season, said the state was committed to football development.
He assured football lovers in the state that before the current season would reach the mid season, Bayelsa United and Queens would return to Yenagoa to entertain their fans.
Dikuro urged the players to be courageous and focused to perform excellently in all their outings in any competition in the course of the season.
He pleaded with all stakeholders to exercise patience while the ministry worked hard to rebuild the football pitch to the best standards.
