Sharks’ Coach Angry With Referees
The Head Coach of Sharks
FC of Port Harcourt, Rivers State, Gbenga Ogunbote was bitter at the decisions of the referees that handled their Week Five fixture of the Glo Premier League match between his team and Dolphins FC also of Port Harcourt at the weekend.
Sharks had the ball in the net in the 14th minute of the match but the goal was disallowed by the match officials.
Reacting to the decision of the referee while fielding questions from sports journalists Ogunbote declared that “the referee killed the game and I think he should not be allowed to officiate football anymore. Refereeing is a hobby for him, but this is my profession and he wants to kill it.”
He also insisted that there is no beautiful goal than the one scored by Sharks against their local rivals, Dolphins FC adding that the referee disallowed it without reason.
According to him, the action of the referee has further dented the image and reputation of Nigerian referees, adding that it is a disgrace to Nigerian Premier League.
In his own reaction, the chairman of Dolphins Supporters Club, Franklin Owhor, described the goal said to have been scored by Sharks as a clear offside, pointing out that it was the assistant referee that raised his flag indicating an offside positioning.
“The Nigerian Premier League has greatly improved in the recent times and the issue of poor officiating should not be discussed,” Owhor said.
In the same vein, Captain of Dolphin FC, Sunday Rotimi expressed happiness over the outcome of the match.
He described Sharks FC as a good side but said Dolphins would achieve their pre-season ambition.
We will play the continent next season and we are working towards achieving that,” Rotimi said.
