Rivers APC Returns Ikanya, Beke

The Rivers State Chapter
of the All Progressives Congress (APC) on Saturday returned its interim chairman and secretary, Chief Davies Ibiamu Ikanya and Chief Emeka Beke as substantive chairman and secretary of the party in the state, respectively.
Ikanya who polled 1,655 votes out of the 2,093 total votes cast, however, emerged by consensus alongside other 35 officers at a well attended congress held at the Alfred Diette-SPiff Civic Centre, Port Harcourt.
Other officers elected include Prince Peter Odike as Deputy Chairman; Chris Finebone as Publicity Secretary, Mrs Roseline Nwankwoalu as Financial Secretary, Abert Abiye Alex-Hart as Treasurer  and Napoleon Okaligbe as Assistant Secretary.
Other members of the new APC executive are Caroline Nagbo as Women Leader, Hon Dandyson Uku as Organising Secretary, Ogazi Boms as Welfare Secretary while Bar Soboma Eli emerged as the Youth Leader.
In his acceptance speech, Chief Ikanya assured that he would work with all party members to ensure the party’s victory in the 2015 elections.
The party chairman promised to do his best to justify the confidence reposed in him as he commended the delegates for their peaceful disposition during the congress.
Earlier, the chairman of the Congress Committee, Chief Cosmas Maduba had charged members to work in harmony to ensure total victory for the party in all the elections slated for 2015.
Maduba reminded delegates that the purpose of the congress was not only to elect officers of the party but to also commence the process of winning the 2015 elections.
He commended delegates for their peaceful disposition and maturity shown during the congress, adding that APC was determined to ensure victory at all levels in the country.
A total of 36 seats were contested for and over 2000 delegates attended the congress.
Speaking to journalists shortly after the congress, the lawmaker representing Rivers South-East Senatorial District in the National Assembly, Senator Magnus Abe, commended the peaceful conduct of the congress, saying it was an indication of APC’s readiness to win the 2015 general elections in the country.
He expressed optimism that the APC’s new executive would lead the party in the state to greater heights.
A lawmaker representing Etche/Omuma Federal Constituency, Chief Ogbonna Nwuke and the state Information Commissioner, Mrs Ibim Seminitari, also applauded the party’s congress, describing it as a sign of victory for the party in the forthcoming elections in 2015.
