Rainstorm Displaces 3,000 In Ogun

gency Management Agency, says over 3,000 people have been displaced in Idogo community, Yewa South local government area of Ogun State, after a rainstorm ravaged the area on Sunday.
The agency said three primary schools, Methodist Primary School, Saint James Catholic Mission Schools and Baptist Primary School all located within the same community, were also destroyed leaving about 500 pupils stranded.
The agency said this in a statement signed by the spokesperson, NEMA South-West zone, Ibrahim Farinloge, last Monday.
The statement added that 55 other houses were destroyed at Iweke community in the same LGA.
The statement read, “The rainstorm started on Sunday morning, more than 3,000 people were displaced while about 600 houses were destroyed in Idogo community near Ilaro in Yewa South Local Government Area of Ogun state. Three schools were also destroyed leaving about 500 pupils stranded in the same community.
At Iweke community in the same Local Government Area, about 55 houses were destroyed with about 527 people affected.
The agency said the victims of the storm were being shattered and provided with food by the federal and state government on a temporary basis, until a permanent solution would be thought out.
It said the affected students had also been provided with alternative study centres before school resumed.
“We advise Nigerians to embark on tree planting as a precautionary measure. They act as wind breakers against devasting effect of climate related disasters that are daily evolving in the society. Nigerians should also avoid sending children on errands when it is risky,” the statement added.
