Perm Sec Tasks Farmers On Agric Policies

tary, Imo State Ministry of Agriculture, Mrs Lilian Asuzu, has urged farmers to key into the vision of Governor Rochas Okorocha to transform the agriculture sector.
Asuzu said this in Owerri recently, shortly after she took over from Mrs Odawayi Opara-Nestor as the Permanent Secretary of the state Ministry of Agriculture.
“Agriculture has the potential to employ millions and give enough food to everybody, if we give it the desired attention,’’ she said.
She said that farmers should take advantage of the ongoing transformation in the sector to provide food and create job opportunities for youths.
The reports that Asuzu was until now the director in-charge of planning, research and statistics in the ministry, before her elevation as permanent secretary.
The new permanent secretary observed that agriculture was providing millions of jobs to the unemployed worldwide, saying that ‘’until Nigeria begins to tap from agriculture, unemployment will continue to constitute a problem.’’
Asuzu said that Okorocha’s administration was doing a lot to revive the multi-million naira palm plantation in Ohaji/Egbema Local Government Area.
She called on staff of the ministry to support the policies and programmes of the government in order to achieve the desired results.
Meanwhile, the Supervising Commissioner for Agriculture, Mrs Ugochi Nnanna-Okoro, expressed optimism that the new permanent secretary was capable of successfully undertaking her assignment.
