The Petroleum and Natu
ral Gas Senior Staff Association of Nigeria (PENGASSAN)
has appealed to the Federal Government to introduce strategic agenda to identify and harness unconventional hydrocarbon resources.
Mr. Seyi Gambo, its national Publicity Secretary, made the appeal in an interview with journalists in Lagos.
Gambo said that the strategy would be part of the overall national energy security framework.
He said that the local oil and gas industry should focus on preserving its enviable global position as one of the top 10 producers and     exporters.
This, he said, could be achieved with the enabling Petroleum Industry Bill (PIB).
Gambo said that proper harnessing of the resources would improve security, better industry efficiency, lower operational costs and elimination of crude oil theft.
He said that the nation’s petroleum industry should shift focus from its current export orientation to aggressively develop ‘in-country’ processing capacity, while government should also encourage indigenous participation in the petroleum industry.
Gambo said that such agenda should have clear goals and deadlines and should be underpinned by a proper review of historical performance.
