The Abia State Gover
nor, Theodore Orji, has signed the state’s 2014 appropriation bill of N115.3 billion into law.
In a brief ceremony at the government house, Orji thanked members of the state House of Assembly for the speedy passage of the bill.
He gave the assurance that the budget would be “fully and prudently implemented to the benefit of all Abians.”
Orji said that efficient implementation of the budget would help the government to complete all the ongoing projects in different parts of the state.
The governor also said that the budget would help to streamline and harmonise all the government’s taxes.
He said that the taxes would no longer be paid by cash, but through the banks.
The new tax system, he said, would bring about significant increase in government’s internally generated revenue.
Our correspondent reports that the governor presented the budget estimates of N149.6 billion to the house on December 30, 2013.
The budget proposal was reviewed downward by the House to N115.3billion, a decline of 23 per cent.
The signing ceremony was witnessed by the Speaker of the House, Chief Oko Chukwu, along with other House functionaries and top government officials.
