‘Only 2,232 Estate Surveyors, Valuers Registered Since 1975’
The Estate Surveyors
and Valuers Registration Board of Nigeria (ESVARBON) registered only 2,232 estate surveyors and valuers since inception in 1975, an official has said.
The Registrar of ESVARBON, Mr Thomas Audu, gave the figure in an interview with newsmen in Lagos, recently.
He said that 160 surveyors would be inducted and registered by the board in April.
According to him, the number is insignificant compared to the amount Nigeria’s landmass and about 150 million population.
The board is trying to fast track the registration process by encouraging more universities and polytechnics to establish the department of estate management.
“At present, there are 14 universities and 18 polytechnics offering Estate Management nationwide.
“This is not enough, as many students who apply to study the course cannot gain admission because of limited spaces.
“Unfortunately, the board does not have control over the admission processes in the tertiary institutions,” he said.
Audu said that the board was working with the Nigerian Institution of Estate Surveyors and Valuers in the registration process.
