About N25 million has
been budgeted by the Ogoni Welfare Association (OWA) secretariat, Lagos, under Engr. Moses Gawa-led administration to enable the completion of the Ken Saro- Wiwa Hall, Lagos which was abandoned more than 10 years ago.
Gawa, who made this known while laying a new foundation block at Ijanikin site, thanked Governor Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi for his intervention, and urged the contractor to keep to specification of the project.
He lamented the absence of Ogoni Secretariat in Lagos over the years, stressing that, “Today marks a watershed in the history of the Ogonis in Lagos because the completion of the secretariat named Ken Saro Wiwa hall will become a reality in the next eight months.”
The Public Relations Officer of the Association, Mr. ThankGod Meekor in a separate interview with our correspondent in Lagos said the architectural drawing of the secretariat which includes event centre, women wing and a library has been maintained.
Meekor recalled that the construction of the secretariat complex was abandoned for more than a decade under the past administration of Mr. Charles Wugate, who started the building and other past chairmen due to lack of funds and management skills.
He therefore, expressed gratitude to the chairman, who revisited the exercise by appointing a building committee led by Chief Christopher Pianen.
Meekor, noted that the committee reproduced architectural drawings of the Ogoni House in Lagos, aimed at adopting the selective-competitive bidding exercise in order to fast track the process and get value for its money.
