MOSOP Carpets HYPREP Over Pollution In Ogoni
The Movement for the
Survival of Ogoni People (MOSOP), says the Hydro Pollution Restoration Project (HYPREP) has not helped the Ogonis in the clean-up of their environment, president of the Movement. Mr Legborsi Piagbara in an interview in Port Harcourt said that the formation of HYPREP has not helped the Ogonis in the restoration of their environment.
Mr Piagbara said that the formation of HYPREP was a departure from the United Nations Environmental Programme (UNEP) report, which urged for a comprehensive clean-up of Ogoniland.
He said that the Ogoni issue was a peculiar case stressing that setting up a commission to look into pollution in the whole of Niger Delta was a deviation from the intention of the United Nations Environmental Programme.
The MOSOP president said that Ogonis would continue to use non-violent means to pursue their demands.
He also described the Ogoni demand for governorship as legitimate, stressing that the people were fully mobilised for the Ogoni project come 2015.
