The Movement for the Survival of Ogoni People (Mosop) has called on the Federal Government to create the Ogoni Environmental Restoration Project as recommended in the  United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) report on Ogoniland.
The MOSOP President, Mr Legborsi piagbara who said this in a radio interview programme in Port Harcourt, said that the refusal by the Federal Government on the creation of the project shows its lack of sincerity on the implementation of the report.
Mr Piagbara said that the pollution in Ogoniland has affected the people’s source of drinking water, stressing that something must be done urgently to save the Ogoni from extinction.
He also condemned the alleged entry of officials of the Shell Petroleum Development Company of Nigeria (SPDC) into the area describing it as illegal.
According to him, Shell incursion into the area is an affront not only to the Ogonis but the international community, stressing that with the issue of pollution still pending SPDC does not have the right to enter the area for operations.
The MOSOP president said that the Ogonis would continue to use peaceful approaches to pursue their course.
Mr Piagbara said that the movement would continue to press for the zoning of the 2015 Governorship by all the political parties to Ogoni as the people have not produced the Governor of the state before.
According to him, the Ogonis will no longer play second fiddle in the politics of Rivers State
