Man, 42, In Prison For Murder

A forty-two year old
man, Sunday Owhonda has been remanded in prison custody by a Port Harcourt Chief Magistrate Court presided over by Emmanuel C. Woke for alleged murder and other criminal acts.
The accused person was said to have on 18th, February 2014 at Igbo-Etche in Port Harcourt magisterial district did unlawfully killed one Onyebuchi Worgu by shooting him with gun.
The accused was alleged to have committed an offence punishable under section 319(1) of the criminal laws of Rivers State of Nigeria, 1999.
The presiding chief magistrate, E.C Woke after the charge sheet was read to the accused person, declined jurisdiction on the grounds that the court lacks the power to trial a murder case and can not also grant him bail.
He ordered that the accused person be remanded in prison custody while the file be forwarded to the office of Director of Public Prosecution (DPP) for legal advice.
The presiding magistrate while adjourning the case to May 28th, 2014 for the DPP advice told the accused person that he has the right to apply to High Court for his bail.
