Lah House Retains Troply At Bua – Yeghe
The 8t!h annual inter-
house athletics competition of Bua-Ye e Community Junior Secondary School in Gokana local government area of Rivers State was held last Sandrday, with Ambassador Solomon Lah House retaining the trophy it won the pevious year.
Five houses vied for honours at the event with Solo-Lah amassing 257 points to cling the first position. Engr. Fabian Neenwi house scored 241 points to place 2nd, while HRH, B.T. Gbarane came 3rd with 229 points. Dr. Ben Birabi and Sir E.D. Kane shared the 4th and 5th positions respectively.
Bottle, sack, invitation relay races, as well as old students and staff races added an excitement to the event; especially when the school’s principal, Chief Mitee George sprinted home ahead of all his staff, from which ever starting point.
Earlier,Chief Mitee had, in his welcome address, mentioned lack of seats for the students, as well as absent of tables, chairs and inadequate accommodation as some teething problems facing the School.
He also listed some of the risks facing the staff and students due to the absence of fences but expressed optimism that the state government and public spirited individuals would bail the school out of the quagmire.
Chief Mitee acknowledged the importance of sports in general human “development, and thanked those who contributed towards progress of the school, including the sport event.
The occasion was chaired by Engr. Emmanuel Biragbara, who was represented by Engr. Friday Tambu, while a former secretary to Gokana Local Government Council and currently principal staff of RIVPOLY Bori, Chief (Hon) Nicholas Nyoryor and Elder
Samuel Lekia Kinagbo graced the occasion and made various donations to the school.
The Chairman of Rivers State Universal Basic Education (UBE) Board, Mr. Ali Orutemeka was represented by a director in the UBE department, Mr. G.E. Igolims.
In his vote of thanks, the Vice Principal (Admin) of the school who chaired the sports committee, Pastor A.K. Gbidum, lauded participants for making the event successful even as the Games Master of the school, Mr. Mgbe Barileera, opined that the school will produce future stars in various sports, based on the level of their performance at last Saturday’s meet.
The patron of the winning house, Amb Solomon Lah, told our correspondent in a telehone interview that, his primary concern at the moment remains upliftment of life through peace and development of youths, in and outside Ogoniland. He pledged detail interview later.
