Kogi, College Sign MoU On Agric Dev
Governor Idris Wada of
Kogi State has promised to utilise the expertise of personnel at the College of Agriculture, Kabba, towards achieving the state’s Agricultural Transformation Agenda.
Wada was quoted as saying this at the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding between the state government and the college which is affiliated to Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria.
Wada, who was represented at the occasion by his Deputy, Mr Yomi Awoniyi, described agriculture as the pivot of his administration’s programme.
The statement said that the governor expressed his administration’s resolve in ensuring that the state becomes the food basket of the nation and that jobs were created through agriculture.
It said Wada commended the college for availing the state of its expertise and competence.
The statement also said that the Provost of the college, Dr Akin Oloniruha, explained that the management service agreement would cover seedling production and training of the youths in areas like poultry, piggery, and catfish production.
Oloniruha said in the statement that under the agreement, the youths would also learn skills in carpentry, hair dressing, yoghurt production and fruit juice making, among others.
It said the provost assured the state government of the college’s desire to make the partnership work.
In a remark, the state Commissioner for Agriculture, Dr Femi Abolarin, said the agreement, when operational, would improve the knowledge of youths in various aspects of agriculture, the statement said.
