House Wife, Daughter Docked Over Husband’s Battery

wife, Mrs Jennifer Ihuigwe and her daughter, Hilda Oriji, 27 have been docked before a Port Harcourt Senior Magistrate Court for allegedly beating her husband, Dr Gibson Oriji on charge sheet number PMC/579c/2014.
The accused persons,  are standing trial on two court charge of assault and threat to kidnap before Senior Magistrate Court 8 presided over by Daisy Wanjoku.
The prosecuting police officer, Sgt Ikosi Omanoye told the court that the accused persons on the 16th day of October, 2013 at Choba, Port Harcourt in the Port Harcourt Magisterial District unlawfully assaulted one Dr Gibson Oriji by hitting him with an iron rod which caused him harm.
The police prosecutor further told the court that the accused persons on the same date and place in the aforesaid magisterial district did conduct themselves in a public place in a manner likely to cause breach of peace by threatening to kidnap the said Gibson Oriji.
The prosecutor averred that the accused persons committed an offence punishable under section 351 and 249(d) of the Criminal Code cap 37 Vol II, Laws of Rivers State of Nigeria 1999.
The accused person pleaded not guilty to the two count charge brought against them before the court.
The first accused person, Jennifer Ihuigwe told the court that she had no problem with her husband only that the husband felt that she was against his move to take another wife for marriage, and added that she had been living in harmony with her husband.
Ruling on the matter, the presiding Senior Magistrate Court 8, D.N. Wanjoku admitted the accused persons in bail of N200,000 with one surety in like sum.
She further directed that the surety should deposit a recent one passport photograph, swear affidavit of means while the police prosecutor should to verify the address of the surety.
She warned the parties to be of good behaviour she described it as family matter and added that she would not hesitate to remand any of the parties in prison custody who may apply further violence in the matter.
The case was later adjourned to April 14, 2014.
