Guber Election: Osun Assemby Seeks Adequate Security

ful and hitch-free governorship election in Osun State, the State House of Assembly has called for the provision of adequate security during and after the election scheduled for August 9.
The speaker of the State House of Assembly, Mr Najeem Salaam, who made the call at the plenary under matters of urgent public importance, said security operatives in the state must ensure peaceful conduct of the election.
The speaker noted that there had been a series of reports alleging that some people were planning to unleash violence during the election.
He urged security operatives to ensure peaceful atmosphere for the election.
“We cannot fold our arms and do nothing regarding the series of reports we have been receiving regarding the election.
“That is why we are appealing to them to be unbiased in discharging their duties of protecting the lives of the people in the state.
“The era of sending people away from their houses because of election violence is over and it will no longer be tolerated.’’
He further appealed to the police to help safeguard the peace and the orderliness the people of the state had been enjoying.
The Deputy Speaker, Mr Akintunde Adegboye, urged politicians not to see the election “as a do-or-die affair”.
Adegboye said security operatives must perform their duty without fear or favour, and ensure adequate protection for the people.
Also speaking, the Chairman, House Committee on Finance and Appropriation, Mr Kamil Oyedele, said that the security of the state was paramount to all stakeholders.
Oyedele said the police must make sure that people do not live in fear because of the election.
