GGW Agency To Check Desertification

The Vice President
Namadi Sambo has said that the National Council  on Shelterbelt and Afforestation (NCSA) programme was aimed at reforming and revamping the ecology in order to save livestock and plants.
The vice president who spoke recently in Abuja at the fourth meeting of NCSA said there was already a draft bill for the establishment  of the Great Green Wall Agency with recommendation to the Federal Executive Council.
The vice president, who chaired the meeting warned against cultivation of land in order to attain the planned objective of the programme.
He said such programmes has successfully been achieved, Senegal, Rwanda and Burundi even as he called the attentionof members of the NCSA to the fact that both the shelterbelt and the Great Green Wall (GGW) started on a slow note.
He further directed that economic trees cultivation be expected and more efforts put in order to revitalising the entire eco-system for the economic enhancement of the people.
Sambo further called for collaboration from relevant ministries, departments and agencies (MDAs) in order to ensure the required outreach to the  grassroots.
HE further directed the Minister of Agriculture, Dr. Adewunmi Adesina to amke a power-point presentation to him on all issues of grazing reserves to enable the government seek timely solutions.
Present at the meeting were the members of the NCSA made up of the Ministers of Youth Affairs, Mr Boni Haruna and Women Affairs, Zainab Maina.
Also present were the permanent secretaries of the ministries of Environment, Water Resources and Education and other relevant agencies.
