The co-ordinator of
Abuja Metropolitan Management Company (AMMC), Mr Reuben Okoya has disclosed that the Federal Territory Administration is set to relocate vehicle mechanics at the Apo Mechanic Village, Abuja to Wusa, a suburb of the territory.
Okoye, who made this known in a chat with newsmen in Abuja recently, said that the present site of the mechanic village in Apo, Abuja was not approved for them.
According to him, “ordinarily, people who intend to do business in the Federal Capital Territory are expected to provide appropriate business premises for themselves.
But the FCTA has graciously agreed to relocate them to Wusa, a place that is more convenient”.
He noted that, “Abuja as our capital city, should be the pride of every Nigerian and people should not be allowed to alter its structural plans.
But a source told our correspondent that the FCTA Department of Development Control plans to demolish the area was to give room for road construction.
The source said government had approved the construction of an alternative road through Apo to Abuja, and work will soon commence.
The mechanic village must therefore be relocated to give way for the road construction project aimed at ensuring free flow of traffic in the city, the source further said.
