The former Chairman of the Southern Ijaw Local Government, Mr. Tiwei Orunimigha is to head the Bayelsa State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) after its state congress.
Orunimigha has been serving as the interim chairman of the party.
Also elected to serve on the State Executive Committee of the party were the former Chairman of  Ekeremor Local Government Council, Mr. Eddy Julius as state deputy chairman and Mr. Martins Daniel as the Secretary.
Others are Mr. Edison Sogwe who was elected as state youth leader and Sir. Tonye Okio as state organizing secretary of the party.
The conduct of the state congress, which was done in a peaceful atmosphere, was witnessed by five representatives of the Independent National Electoral Commission(INEC) from the state and national headquarters and the national officers of the party led by Dr. Ekpeyong Ottu from Akwa Ibom State.
Ekpeyong Ottu, while conducting the congress, announced that the delegates of the party had agreed to adopt affirmative voting with the adoption of an harmonized list of state executive members with the chairmanship aspirant, Hon.Sunday Frank-Okputu stepping down for the elected chairman.
In his acceptance speech, the state Chairman of the APC, Tiwei Orunimigha, said the decision of delegates  to agree and harmonize the list of State Executive members showed a new unity of purpose from the party that  has taken over power from the ruling People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in 2016 in the state.
According to him, “With this election of a proper executive of the party, the problem in Bayelsa APC is gone. The journey to take over the Bayelsa State Government House has started. Let me remind our members that the APC is not an opposition party but the alternative in Bayelsa State.”
Tiwei, while outlining strategies of the party ahead of the 2016 governorship poll, said the party will soon organize a rally to welcome back to the state the former Governor, Chief Timipre Sylva.
Chief Tiwei Orunimigha, while declaring the APC’s readiness to take over the governorship seat in the state, said the rising rebellion against the President, Dr. Goodluck Jonathan by elected members of the ruling party over automatic ticket in 2015 is a good sign for the APC,
“With all humility, we will sweep off the Seriake Henry Dickson administration in 2016.The PDP has failed in Bayelsa State,” he said.
“The Ogas and Madams at the top choose who they want and when they want them. If you are not chosen, you never serve your people. If they choose you, you will only serve Oga and Madam and not the people of the state. Bayelsa is being ruled with lies. They promised robust agricultural plan but what you have seen is a robust building of houses by their families and friends.
If a government of the day was built on poverty mentality, they will scurry away with the wealth of the state and not for the benefit of the people.”
