A former President of the
Nigeria Wushu Kung-Fu Federation (NWKF), Ojo Adelusi, has appealed to the National Sports Commission (NSC), to incorporate all sports in the National Sports Festival (NSF).
Adelusi told newsmen in Lagos that such an inclusion would impact positively on the country’s numerous athletes.
“ The government should see sports from the perspective of an event used to engage restive youths meaningfully, in order to prevent them from social vices.
“So that talented youths in some sports that people refer to as lesser sports, should also be given the opportunity of showcasing their skills at extensive competitions like the NSF.
“The idea of excluding some sports from major tournaments in the country is not the best for our youths and the growth and development of sports in general.’’
He condemned the habit of excluding some sports by the host of the NSF because of unsubstantiated claims.
“The authorities should please have a rethink on the issue of optional sports by the host states after the compulsory ones because it is not good for our sports development.
“I believe all sports should be given equal rights because anything contrary, implies hindrance and it could affect the morale of states that have been warming up for participation.
“The idea is to start developing these sports now, because they might be considered as Olympic sports in the nearest future so that we will not have to start from the scratch,’’ he said.
The 19th NSF, tagged ‘Paradise Games’ would hold in Calabar, Cross River from November  23 to December 3.
