Clarion Chukwura Faults AGN’s Presidential Address
Information at our disposal
has it that veteran Nollywood actress, Clarion Chukwura has faulted the address of the President of the Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN), Ibinabo Fiberesima which she presented to President Goodluck Jonathan during the recent visit of the Guild to Aso Rock, Abuja.
Clarion in a recent interview, claimed that in her address to the President, Ibanabo claimed that the AGN is the only umbrella body of Nigerian screen actors. She noted that AGN is not the sole umbrella of Nigerian screen actors. She contended that there are other associations like Association of Nigerian Theatre Practitioners ANTP, Association of Movie Producers (AMP), ANCORP, RATTAWU etc some of which existed before AGN was established.
According to her, the current AGN president seeks to represent the English language movie industry and has been unsuccessful in the bid ever since as members have continued to fail to renew their membership because to date AGN brings nothing to the table to advance her members professionally and socially.
Clarion Chukwura who was formerly married to Yoruba music icon Shina Peters which produced Clarence Peters and a top star in the entertainment clan, said that the screen actors need is a guild that is structured to promote their creativity as artists with due material returns which is the focus required of a collective actors guild of Nigeria.
She also alleged that the constant release of funds by the president has been accessed by a few who knew of it and were connected to collect it and has no way improved the lot of the main stream Nigerian screen actors who make their daily living from Nollywood. The actress maintained that what the actress maintained that what the Nigerian screen actors require is an enabling structure creating a level playing ground for all to work, empowered by legislation.
